Fracture toughness (ASTM E399) is a property that represents the ability of a material containing a crack to resist fracture, and is one of the most important properties of any material for almost all design applications.

The Fracture block is notched with a slot ending in drilled hole, (Chevron or Straight through Notches available), measured, pre-cracked, and tested. The value is denoted as KIC or KQ and is expressed in the units of .
